The Brief

In early 2020, we had just launched our graphic design business, full of ideas, optimism, and plans for a creative future. Then the COVID-19 pandemic hit. Practically overnight, the world changed, and so did the needs of our community.

With face coverings becoming a part of daily life and disposable masks creating growing environmental concerns, we quickly recognised a gap in the market. People needed safe, sustainable, and comfortable face coverings and businesses were looking for ways to stay protected without sacrificing their brand identity.

We saw an opportunity to use our design skills not just to support ourselves in uncertain times, but to provide a valuable, timely service to both individuals and local businesses.

Our Approach

Adaptability became our priority. Drawing on our design expertise, we shifted focus to create a product that was both functional and visually appealing. We approached the project with a clear set of goals:

• Sustainability: Use eco-conscious materials like organic cotton and bamboo fabrics.

• Comfort: Ensure softness, breathability, and a fit that could be worn all day.

• Reusability: Make masks washable and long-lasting to reduce environmental impact.

• Style and Brandability: Offer attractive designs and custom branding options for businesses.

• Community Focus: Keep production local and accessible, supporting fellow small businesses and frontline teams.

As a young design studio, this pivot allowed us to test our creativity, resourcefulness, and production agility in a very real-world setting.

What We Created

We developed a range of high-quality, eco-friendly face coverings for both the public and business clients. Each mask was:

• Made from soft, breathable, sustainable fabric

• Reusable and machine-washable

• Designed for comfort with adjustable fits and gentle ear loops

• Offered in a variety of stylish colours and prints

• Customisable with logos, colours, and designs for businesses

For our corporate clients, we provided branded mask designs that aligned with their visual identity, creating a cohesive, professional appearance for staff that also communicated care and responsibility.

The Result

Our face coverings quickly gained traction and became a go-to option for many during lockdown, praised for their comfort, design, and reusability. They filled a practical need while also standing out aesthetically, with many customers returning for additional designs or replacements.

More importantly, we were able to help our community stay safe, support local businesses, and contribute positively at a crucial time. Businesses appreciated the ability to protect their staff while maintaining brand consistency, and we built meaningful relationships that continued beyond the pandemic.

This project became a defining moment for our newly launched design business - proving that by staying flexible, listening to emerging needs, and thinking creatively, we could grow and make an impact even in the most unpredictable circumstances.
