The Brief

One of our lovely clients, Emily, reached out to us recently with an exciting side venture they were launching - a blog called Funusual Travel, dedicated to sharing fun and unusual travel experiences. Their first featured destination was Japan, and they were looking for help developing their branding, typography, and colour palette to bring their vision to life.

Our Approach

We started by having in-depth conversations with the client to understand their creative preferences and the kind of design styles they were drawn to. These initial discussions were essential in helping us identify what to include, and just as importantly, what to leave out during the design process.

We then put together a series of mood boards to explore visual directions, focusing on themes of exploration, personality, and playful curiosity - the key traits behind Funusual Travel. For iconography, both we and the client agreed that a travel symbol such as a plane or location pin would be ideal to communicate the essence of the brand.

From the outset, we had a clear vision for the colour palette: bold, inviting, and a little unexpected - much like the travel experiences Funusual Travel aimed to share.

What We Created

We had a lot of fun brainstorming and developing logo concepts for Funusual Travel. We knew the brand needed two distinct logo versions: one optimised for social media use, and one suited for the website and promotional materials.

The final logo design featured a paper plane to visually represent travel and movement, and we incorporated elements from the curated colour palette to give the identity a unique and vibrant tone. We experimented with font pairings and word compositions, testing different typographic treatments to strike the right balance between professional and playful.

If you take a look closely, you might even notice a couple of early logo drafts that didn’t quite make it to the final cut.

The Result

The final branding for Funusual Travel is bold, memorable, and full of personality - perfectly capturing the essence of fun, curiosity, and adventure. The logo is adaptable for multiple platforms, the colour palette is vibrant and versatile, and the typography gives the brand a distinct voice across all touchpoints.

With their visual identity in place, Funusual Travel is now ready to take off and inspire others to explore the world in a truly fun and unusual way.

Testimonial

"Marie and Shaun designed my photography business branding a couple of years ago, so when I decided to launch a travel blog, it was a no-brainier to use them again! I love their colourful, quirky style which suits me to a tee, and they are also fab at taking all of my random thoughts and Pinterest board ideas and magically turning them into great branding and logo ideas. Can’t recommend them enough!"
